From September 6 to 12, The Hague will be charmingly orange during Royal September.
Various festivities will take place, and De Passage is joining in the celebration. From September 1 to 30, you can once again admire the rediscovered hats.
In 2020, a remarkable collection of no fewer than 3,000 hats was discovered in the vacant space above the former hat shop Ladies Paradise in De Passage. After the shop closed in 1998, the hats were left behind in the attic. In 2022, The Hague-based designer Pink Steenvoorden of Einstein Design created the installation Chapeau! – a playful display in which countless hats seem to dance through the monumental space. It’s an homage to the hats and to the rich history of De Passage.
Ladies Paradise was founded in 1961 by Otto De Klijn. At the time, hats were mainly worn for formal and elegant occasions. Several Members of Parliament, as well as Queen Juliana and Queen Beatrix, came to Ladies Paradise for their hats.
